Online Thyroid Coach for Indian Women in Canada

Thyroid-aware online coaching for Indian women in Canada with hypothyroidism: strength training, Indian food built around your plate, and sessions at any time that suits you. Women coaches on request.

Generic fat-loss plans are built for typical energy levels. With hypothyroidism, a long cardio habit on low energy can leave you more tired, and a very large calorie cut is hard to keep. We start with progressive strength training, protein at each meal and a calorie target you can hold for months. Your coach is certified and based in India and joins you on video, and the food plan uses dal, paneer, roti and rice from Canadian grocery shelves. Your doctor stays in charge of your medication.

Your clock

Any time that suits your day in Canada

Coaches cover every time slot, so you pick the hour: before work, at lunch or in the evening. The ring shows one example: a 9 to 11 PM India session is 7:30 to 9:30 AM in Vancouver, 8:30 to 10:30 AM in Calgary, 9:30 to 11:30 AM in Winnipeg and Regina, and 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM in Toronto in winter time (1 November 2026 to 14 March 2027). From 14 March 2027, add one hour, except in most of Saskatchewan, which does not change its clocks.

Who this is for

Built for Indian women in Canada living with an underactive thyroid

Who it suits

  • Indian women in Canada with hypothyroidism who are gaining weight or struggling to lose it while on medication
  • People with Hashimoto's who want training and food that fit their energy, not a generic fat-loss plan
  • Busy professionals and shift workers with thyroid fatigue who find long cardio sessions hard to keep up
  • Families cooking Indian food at home who want a plan made for their kitchen
  • Anyone with thyroid plus PCOS, pre-diabetes or low vitamin D who wants one coordinated plan with their doctor

Why generic weight-loss coaching fails with hypothyroidism

  • Cardio-heavy plans that leave thyroid clients more tired
  • Few know how dal, paneer and rice fit into a plan with protein and iodine in mind
  • Very large calorie cuts make a plan impossible to keep for months
  • Nobody explains why the scale moves slowly, or how to track progress beyond weight

Who coaches you

A thyroid diet coach you can reach by video

Your coach is certified and based in India, and every session is a 1-on-1 video call, with no visit needed. Coaches cover every time slot, so the session runs at the Canadian time you pick. The 1-on-1 format means one coach follows your training, food and check-ins from start to finish. You do not start over with a new person each time, and the notes from your last call are the starting point for the next one. The coach reviews your food log and your energy notes before each session, so the call time is spent on what changed.

Food around you

Thyroid-aware food on Canadian shelves

Plans start from what is in your kitchen and on your route. Each row below is a place most members in Canada shop or eat. The portion numbers come from our food database for cooked portions. The table covers an Indian grocer and a mainstream store, since most kitchens use both.

Our own data

What women in our questionnaire picked

From the coaching questionnaire, 22 June to 17 September 2026. Thyroid imbalance is one of three hormone concerns people picked, with PCOS or PCOD and insulin resistance or prediabetes. These are women who asked from outside India, pooled across countries, so no figure here is about Canada alone.

Women outside India: thyroid imbalance22%
Women in India: thyroid imbalance17%
Women outside India: any of the three hormone concerns51%

The clinical context

What the guidance says

  • The American Thyroid Association task force reviewed the goals and the prescribing of levothyroxine. It says its guidance is not a replacement for individual clinical judgment 1.
  • In a 2024 network meta-analysis of 28 randomized trials, with 1,620 adults with overweight or obesity, aerobic exercise gave the largest weight loss. High-intensity interval training gave the largest reductions in body fat and fasting glucose and the largest gain in fitness 2. That is why we pair strength work with walking and keep intervals short and optional.
  • Your doctor stays in charge of your medication. Dose changes, extra tests and any supplement start with them.

Sample week

How a week can look

Your session time is the one you pick on the free call. Coaches cover every time slot.

Your days, your times. You pick the days and the hours, in your own time zone, and a session can move when your week changes.

Coach experience

What a session checks

  • Energy and sleep across the whole week, not just on the day of the session
  • Strength: the weight and reps you hit in each lift, and whether the same weight felt harder this week
  • Food: protein at each meal, how often iodised salt, dairy, eggs or fish appear, and how much fried food the week includes
  • Medication timing: when you take your tablet and what you eat around it. Questions about timing go to your doctor
  • Training load: after three days of low energy, the next week gets lighter

Coach tip: ask your doctor when to take your thyroid tablet, keep it at the same time each day, and plan your breakfast and protein around that time.

Protein in our data

The snack slot is the weakest meal

In member food logs from 19 April to 17 September 2026, the median protein per logged meal was 24.6 g at breakfast, 23 g at lunch, 29 g at dinner and 13 g for snacks. In logs up to 13 October 2026, deep-fried items were 1.8% of all logged food items, and lunch and dinner held most of them. We start with the snack slot and the lunch plate.

How the first month runs

Four steps from the first call

  1. Discovery call (free, about 30 minutes). We go through your diagnosis, medication, past training, food, sleep and what has not worked before.
  2. Weeks 1 and 2: baseline. We set the training load and food targets from what you tell us, and we watch energy, sleep and how each session feels.
  3. Week 3 onward: weekly change. Each Sunday check-in changes one thing at most, so you can see what caused what.
  4. Every month: a short written summary of training, food and energy, which you can share with your doctor if you choose.

The plate

Common Indian foods, with our portion numbers

A plate with dal, a portion of paneer or fish, one roti and a salad covers protein at lunch without a big rice portion. These values come from our food database for cooked portions. Your portions and recipes will vary.

A sample, not a prescription. We adjust portions to your calorie target and to when you take your medication.

Iodine and selenium

How the plan covers them, through food first

We plan iodine and selenium through food, not pills. Iodised salt, dairy, eggs and fish are the everyday sources we check for, and the plan shows how often each one appears in your week. We do not set a dose, and we do not add a supplement on our own. If your doctor wants a supplement, we plan the food around it. Raw cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower are not off the menu. We only check how much raw cruciferous vegetable a week contains when your doctor has flagged iodine as a concern.

Week to week

What changes from one week to the next

Most weeks we change one thing: a session load, a meal, a bedtime or a walk. If your energy drops for three days in a row, the next session gets lighter, and we look at sleep and food first. If the scale and your energy both move, we keep the plan. If only the scale moves, we look at what changed in the week before we change anything else.

Common myths

Four thyroid and weight myths we correct on the first call

Thyroid explains everything

Sleep, stress, training load and food often matter too. We check all of them before we blame the thyroid.

Hard cardio is the fastest fix

Strength work and walking are our base. Intervals come later, and only when your energy allows them.

Once the dose is right, the weight comes off by itself

The dose is one part of the picture. Daily habits are the other part, and that is what we coach.

Indian food is the problem

Dal, paneer, eggs and roti can make a strong base. Portions and how the food is fried matter more than the dish.

Strength training

What a strength session looks like

A typical session is 30 to 45 minutes. It starts with five minutes of walking and joint movement, then four lifts repeated in two or three sets. Rest between sets is long enough to talk normally, and we stop a set one rep short of struggling.

  • Warm-up: five minutes of walking, then hip, shoulder and ankle movement
  • Lower body: a squat to a chair or box, and a glute bridge
  • Upper body: a band row, and a push-up on a bench or wall
  • Core: a dead bug or a plank held from the knees, as you can manage
  • Cool-down: a slow walk and two minutes of easy breathing

Walking is the second base of the plan. We start with a short daily walk and add time only when sleep and energy hold up. Intervals are optional and come later, when your coach sees the energy to handle them.

The food plan

How the food plan is built

We start with one week of food logs in the app, not a new diet. From that week we pick the two or three swaps that change the most, such as a protein-light breakfast or a fried snack, and we leave the rest of your food alone. Protein at each meal is the first target, then fibre from vegetables and dal, then the total calories you can hold. Festival weeks get their own plan, so one big meal does not undo the month.

Patterns we check first

Habits that change a thyroid plan

  • Skipping breakfast, then eating most of the day's food at night
  • Long cardio on short sleep, which can leave you more tired the next day
  • Going back to a hard workout straight after a missed week
  • Protein only at dinner, with a light lunch and snacks of biscuits or chai
  • Very large calorie cuts before a holiday or a trip home

Travel weeks

Keeping the plan on a trip

Travel or jet lag came up in 19% of the one-to-one sessions we reviewed as case studies, and it was the most common reason for a missed session. So we plan for it. On a trip we keep the session time, cut the strength work to the two lifts you can do in a hotel room, and keep a walk each day. Protein comes first at breakfast, because hotel and airport food is harder to control later in the day. When you are back, the next check-in picks up where you left off.

Timing and food

Tablet timing and breakfast

Ask your doctor or pharmacist when to take your tablet compared with food, coffee and any supplements. We plan breakfast around the timing they give you, so the two do not clash. If the timing changes, tell your coach that week so the food plan changes with it. For the first two weeks, note the time you take it in your check-in message.

Check first

When to see your doctor before you start

If you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy, speak to your doctor before any new training or food plan. If you have new symptoms, such as chest pain, fainting or a fast heartbeat that does not settle, see a doctor before you train. Coaching does not replace urgent care. Your coach asks about these symptoms on the discovery call, before any plan is set.

Limits

What coaching does not do

  • Replace your doctor, diagnose a condition or change your medication
  • Promise a set amount of weight loss, a date, or a reversal of your condition
  • Use crash diets, fasting or very low calorie plans
  • Ask you to stop a medicine or start a supplement without your doctor

Before the call

What to have ready for your discovery call

  • Your current medication, the dose and the time you take it
  • Your latest thyroid blood test report, if you have one
  • Any other diagnoses, such as PCOS, pre-diabetes or low vitamin D
  • A typical day of food and a typical week of training or walking
  • Your sleep pattern and work hours, including any travel
  • Your goals in your own words, and what you want to stop doing

Questions

Common questions

How does thyroid medication and coaching work together?

We are a coaching team, not a medical team. Your doctor stays in charge of your medication, and any dose change is their decision 1. Coaching covers what you control every day: strength training, walking, protein at meals, sleep and a weekly check-in. If you choose, we send your endocrinologist a short summary of your training and food. You decide what gets shared.

Why is normal weight loss coaching not enough for hypothyroidism?

Generic plans are built for typical energy levels. With hypothyroidism, a long cardio habit on low energy can leave you more tired, and a very large calorie cut is hard to keep for months. We start with progressive strength training, protein at each meal and a calorie target you can hold. In adults with overweight or obesity, a 2024 review of 28 trials found aerobic exercise gave the largest weight loss, and interval training gave the largest gains in body fat and fitness 2. Your plan mixes both, scaled to your energy.

What is iodine and selenium, and why does thyroid-aware nutrition include them?

Iodine and selenium are minerals your thyroid uses. Your coach does not set doses. We check what your week contains: iodised salt, dairy, eggs, fish, and how often you eat large amounts of raw cruciferous vegetables such as cabbage or broccoli. If you think you need more iodine or selenium, or want a supplement, ask your doctor first, because the right amount depends on your blood tests.

I gain weight easily and lose it very slowly with hypothyroidism. Is that reversible?

We cannot promise a result. Your medication and your doctor's dose set the thyroid side. Our coaching works on training, food and daily habits. Weight can move slowly, so we track energy, strength and waist as well as the scale, and we set the pace week by week. Check with your doctor that your current dose is right before you change anything.

What if I feel exhausted even on thyroid medication?

Tiredness can have several causes, so start with your doctor. They can review your dose and order the blood tests they think you need, and you can ask whether iron and B12 should be checked too. On our side, we check sleep, stress, training load and food, and we make training lighter in weeks when your energy is low.

Does a Canadian winter change anything in a thyroid plan?

Short winter days mean less walking outdoors and less sun. We move walks indoors (malls, stairs, a treadmill) so daily movement does not drop, and keep strength sessions at home. Winter sun in most of Canada is too weak for the skin to make much vitamin D, so ask your family doctor whether you need a vitamin D test or supplement. If you take levothyroxine, ask your doctor or pharmacist how to time it around calcium, iron or other supplements.

How does this work across Canadian time zones? I am in Vancouver and the coach is in India.

Coaches cover every time slot, so you pick any time that suits you in Canada. One example: a 9 to 11 PM India session is 7:30 to 9:30 AM in Vancouver, 8:30 to 10:30 AM in Calgary and 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM in Toronto in winter time (1 November 2026 to 14 March 2027). Travel or jet lag came up in 19% of the one-to-one sessions we reviewed as case studies, so we move the session when you travel. Your coach checks your form on camera during each video call.

I have other conditions too: PCOS, pre-diabetes, vitamin D deficiency. Can your thyroid coach handle all of this?

Often they overlap, and one coordinated plan makes sense. Diagnosis and treatment for each condition stay with your doctor. Send us your recent reports and we plan training and food around them. For blood sugar or GLP-1 medicines, we work alongside your doctor, not in place of them. Our PCOS and diabetes coaching pages go into those conditions in more detail.

Will my coach know the protein and calories in Indian food?

We build the plan from food you already cook. Portions come from our own food database: a bowl of cooked dal is 150 kcal and 9 g protein, 50 g paneer is 133 kcal and 9 g protein, 1 cup cooked rice is 206 kcal and 4 g protein, and 1.5 rotis are 156 kcal and 4.5 g protein. We plan around Indian grocery shelves and Canadian chains, so the plan fits your shopping and your schedule.

Is a female coach available for thyroid coaching?

Yes, on request. Tell us your preference on the discovery call and we will match you with a female coach where one is available. The plan leaves room for family meals and festival food.

How do I know if coaching is working for my thyroid?

We track energy, strength, sleep, how you feel, waist and weight over several weeks. The scale is one number, and it often lags behind how you feel. Blood tests are your doctor's call: ask them when they want to recheck your thyroid tests, and we use the results with you only if you share them.

Do I need to stop my thyroid medication to start coaching?

No. Do not change or stop your medication to start coaching. Any change to your dose is your doctor's decision, based on your blood tests 1. Tell us what you take and when, so we plan training and meals around your routine.

Can I start if my last thyroid test was a while ago?

Yes. We ask for your latest report on the discovery call so we know where to start. If you have no recent test, we suggest asking your doctor for one before you make big changes to food or training.

Is this the same as seeing a dietitian?

No. We are coaches. We plan food around your training, daily habits and weekly schedule. For a full medical nutrition plan that depends on blood tests, your doctor or a registered dietitian is the right person, and we are glad to work alongside them.
